Born a fourth generation Texan, and raised in Houston, Darlene grew up next door to a rodeo arena and dreamed of being a barrel-racing rodeo queen. Instead, she became a self-taught artist, NPS certified river guide and a grateful cancer survivor. Wife, mom & grandmother, Darlene now resides with her husband, Dave, and fur people, Gypsy & Hank, in Montgomery County, Texas, near Lake Conroe. Though Darlene has no formal training, she has been a recent participant in workshops by Randy Meador, (watercolor), and Donna Howell Sickles, (figure drawing), and is currently an online student of Jill Soukup, (oil painting). Darlene is currently producing original artworks in graphite, charcoal, watercolor and oil. She has been accepted in the prestigious Bosque Art Classis in Clifton, Texas in 2020, has been a regular participant in the juried Western Trappings Show in Llano and in 2019, she was invited to show at the Cross Timbers Fine Art Gallery in Stephenville. She now teaches project art classes at Liberty Bell Antiques and shows her work in Montgomery, Texas. |
